Apr 08, 2016 The Parrot Zik 3 serve up a hefty helping of advanced features, with wireless charging and Apple Watch support paired with that familiar Zik sound. Mar 16, 2016 Can you please confirm, whether the Zik 2 does work with the latest Zik Watch app? Can you use parrot's app on the Apple Watch and configure Zik 2 just via the Apple Watch app. Zik 3 work with their Apple Watch app, I was wondering if Zik 2 worked too?
Parrot’s Zik 3 Bluetooth headphones are some of the best designed headphones I’ve ever worn. For the $400 price tag, they’d better be.
Parrot offers eight different designs of Zik 3, ranging in colors and materials. From a traditional black leather to a bright red with a crocodile skin pattern.

In the box you’ll find a 3.5mm audio cable, a Micro USB cable for charging and streaming audio, and a carrying bag. The bag offers little in terms of protection while your headphones are packed away in a backpack. It would have been nice for Parrot to include a more robust carrying case — something that offers protection and portability.

A tap and a swipe
You can control volume levels and playback of audio using the touch panel found on the right-side of the headphones. A tap on the ear cup will play or pause music, while a swipe up or down lowers volume. Alternatively, a swipe in either direction horizontally will skip through tracks.
The controls are responsive with very little delay from the time you touch the headphones until the change is made.
For the first few days of use, I didn’t like how easy it was to accidentally trigger the touch controls. I would often accidentally pause my music when I was only trying to adjust the headphones on my head.
Eventually, I learned to be more aware of where I was putting my fingers on the headphones when I needed to move them, sans interruption.
Completely wireless
Calling the Zik 3 a set of truly wireless headphones isn’t an understatement. Parrot packed several wireless technologies into the headphones, including Qi wireless charging, NFC and Bluetooth.
The addition of NFC makes pairing the headphones with an Android smartphone a breeze: Power up the headphones, tap your phone to the right ear cup, and a few seconds later the two devices are connected. On iOS, however, the Bluetooth pairing process is the same as it ever was (by no fault of Parrot’s).
The Zik 3’s Bluetooth connection is reliable enough you should feel comfortable leaving your phone in a bag or on your desk as you walk around. I was able to walk around my entire house, across two levels without any interference.
Wireless charging requires a Qi-compatible charging pad. Parrot’s site claims nearly any Qi pad will do, however, I had no luck getting my review unit to charge on Samsung’s Wireless Charging Pad. Looking through Parrot’s user forums, I found others have had mixed luck with using third-party pads.
Parrot sells a wireless charging accessory that fits into the cup of the headphone for $35. Parrot’s adapter appears to fit into the cup of the headphone, which should eliminate any wireless charging hiccups.
The magic's in the app
To get the most out of your headphones you’ll need to use the Zik mobile app. Available for Android and iOS, the Parrot Zik app is where you go to view battery stats, enable or disable noise control, adjust the equalizer or download presets made by artists either for their own work or genres. For example, DJ Jazzy Jeff has six different presets you can download, ranging from hip-hop to EDM dance to a preset for his The Magnificent album.
Through the app you can also adjust how aggressive the Zik 3 handles noise-cancellation, or as the app calls it, Noise Control.
For the majority of my use, I left the noise control setting to Auto. Meaning it was up to the headphones to adjust how aggressive the noise-cancellation feature was, based on the ambient sound of my environment. I suspect most will do the same, and for good reason. I had no issues with noise-cancellation.
When you first open the app, you’re presented with the current battery percentage of the Zik 3. Alternatively, you can open the Apple Watch app to view battery percentage and control equalizer presets.
To extend battery life while traveling, you can connect the Zik 3 to your smartphone using the included cable and by enabling a feature Parrot calls “Flight mode” in the Zik app. Touch controls and Bluetooth are turned off when flight mode is enabled, but noise control is still active and designed specifically to block out plane or train noise. Parrot claims flight mode will provide 18 hours of battery life.

I used flight mode on two different flights, and came away impressed. I could barely hear the hum of the engines just outside my window, nor could I hear the 2-year-old throwing a fit four rows ahead of me.
Parrot Zik 2.0
The small things
Parrot got a lot of small things right with the Zik 3. A sensor in the right ear cup knows when you remove the headphones and automatically pauses your music. Likewise, once you put the headphones back on, playback resumes. You can also set the number of minutes after removing the headphones before they turn off, to save on battery life.
Speaking of battery life, Parrot estimates six hours of use when used solely through a Bluetooth connection. I found the battery to last just over six hours of mixed use, and even longer when using Flight mode.
Audio quality was crisp and clear, if not slightly hollow at times. I listened to a wide variety of music, ranging from Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo to Elle King’s Love Stuff. Bass was present, but not overpowering as can often be the case. And with the ability to finely tune the overall sound to your preferred taste, it’s hard to find fault with the Zik 3’s audio performance.
Mac App For Parrot Zik 3 Reviews
The biggest downside to the Zik 3 is its price tag. For most, it’s hard to justify any pair of headphones priced at $400. But the added flexibility provided by the mobile app, and the thoughtfulness put into the overall experience, combined with quality materials and design, should make the Zik 3 attractive to anyone looking for premium headphones.
